02 Jan Running Junk Miles
Before I go into my story so far, if you know someone that is struggling with their running performance or you are that person tag yourself or them below and I’ll select one person at random who will receive a free 12 week running programme. The winner will be chosen by my kids and announce by tomorrow evening.
Whatever your training for it’ll always be full of ups and downs! In January 2015 I basically shot gunned myself into running 7 marathons in 7 days wearing flip flops. We raised a huge amount of money for charity and I run with some amazing people, however, the challenge didn’t go to plan from a personal perspective and in Jan 2016 I set out to try and run a sub 3hrs marathon in sandals.
On the 2nd October I achieved this at Bournemouth marathon festival in a time of 2hrs 59mins. At the beginning of the year my fastest half marathon was 1hrs 45min which was surpassed at the Gosport marathon in a time of 1hr 22mins. Last month I walked out of my house and completed 52km ultra for charity in a time of 4hrs 20mins without headphones!
My training leading into 2016 is as follows and I worked very hard at what I wanted to achieve. I completed these totals during training: 225 individual runs and 2350km which was all done in barefoot sandals.
Who knows what is in store for 2017 but one thing I do know, I’ve qualified for the London and Boston marathons and I’m going to work with my coach, yes, every good coach has a coach or a mentor to improve and develop.
If you’re running junk miles and going out running without a plan I would consider this insane!
