Bare 7X7 Challenge
The Bare 7×7 Challenge is a long distance road run in aid of the Paediatric High Dependency Unit (PHDU) at Southampton General Hospital. This small but vital unit is chronically underfunded, and my running companions and I are committed to raising much-needed funds. We are running seven marathons in seven days, starting at Rock in Cornwall and finishing in Hamble in Hampshire where I live.
I have first-hand experience of the amazing work that the Southampton PHDU do. Three of my children have asthma and my son Jude has required hospitalisation on numerous occasions including a stay in the PHDU. The work they do is truly remarkable and I want to support them.
Not as insane as you might think!
For most people, running just one marathon is a challenge, so running seven marathons (190 miles!) in just seven days may seem a little extreme. However, you have to remember that
- I am a coach
- I am a pretty good runner already
- I like to stretch myself
That’s why I had to add the extra challenge of running barefoot style. Running on bare feet, for this distance, on roads would be physically impossible. That’s why I am running “barefoot style” wearing only a pair of thin, flipflop like rubber soles made by Xero Shoes, to protect my feet.
Please support me and my Barefoot 7×7 running buddies
This challenge will stretch me, and the team I am running with, but it is really all about raising vital funds for the Southampton Paediatric High Dependency Unit. Please help us to help them improve the lives of local children. Support us by visiting our just giving page
